We are honored to have one of our real brides, Shaileigh share her Say Yes To the Dress moment with us! Thanks Shaileigh for such a great testimonial and for being a Something New Boutique Bride!
“Finding My Dress Was Straight Out of a Fairytale and It’s All Thanks to Something New
The day I found my wedding dress is by far one of my most treasured memories. I grew up looking forward to all things wedding. As a wanna-be Disney Princess and someone who has worked in the wedding industry for years, I had been looking forward to finding my dress for as long as I can remember. When the opportunity came for me to be the first bride to say yes in the brand new store, I couldn’t think of a better way to find my dress.
On the morning of my appointment, I woke up before my alarm, as I was too excited and nervous to sleep any longer. I took extra care in my hair and makeup so that I would feel good with all of the pictures that would be taken during the day. Then I headed off to the new store. Upon arrival at Something New, you are greeted at the top of the stairs with a beautiful chandelier and gorgeous floating moss wall. My appointment was held in the most AMAZING space in the whole building, the ‘Yes Corner’. The yes corner is the most western facing corner of the building, with windows showcasing the most amazing view of the mountains. When I looked around, my eyes filled up with tears because I knew that in a matter of a couple of hours I would be saying yes to my dress in the most beautiful place imaginable. Slowly my family members and friends started to arrive, and we all gathered on the couches. I was definitely one of those brides who had an entire squad with me to find my dress. I wanted it to be a big party, so the more the merrier! We popped some bottles of champagne and the energy in the room was unlike anything I have experienced before.
Mindi came over to the group and walked us all through the process of finding the dress. When it came time that she asked me what I was looking for, I told her that I was really open on styles, but that the most important thing to me was to feel like my own bride. I have worked in the wedding industry for a few years, and have helped many brides down the aisle. I wanted to find something that made me feel like a bride, but that did not remind me of all of the brides I have helped before. Once we chatted through all of that, my group was directed to the bridal gowns.
The dress galleria is like something out of a movie. There are two rows of gorgeous dresses, complete with veils, jewelry, belts, and more, all lit up with amazing lights from the ceiling. We started searching through the dresses. I was instructed to pick the first three to try on. I knew right away there was one that drew my eye, so I picked the one as my first. Next, I picked another one that was a completely different silhouette, as I wanted to know what that would look like on my body, and then I let my mom and sister pick the last one. Once we picked all three, we made our way back to the seating area and Mindi brought me over to my dressing room. I decided to start with the first dress that drew my eye in the beginning. I stepped into it, and Mindi used clips to make it fit as close to me as possible. When I turned and looked in the mirror, I was absolutely shocked. I have never felt so pretty in my life. Seriously. Mindi asked what I thought about it and I told her I absolutely loved it. We walked out to the seating area and everyone just erupted with “ooo’s” and “ahhh’s” and my mom immediately started tearing up. I stood on the pedestal and looked into the mirror and was just beaming. After talking about how much we loved the dress, we decided to try on a couple more to compare to it.
I put on the second and third dresses that we had picked out, and while I liked them, they just didn’t compare to the first dress that blew me away. After the third dress, Mindi told me that she was going to go pick out the dress that she thought could be contender with my favorite. When she brought it in, I instantly could see how it could be competition to the first dress. When I put it on, I really liked the dress and wanted to go out to the group to compare. While everyone liked this dress, we all agreed that it didn’t have the same “Wow Factor” as the first one. However, one element that I loved about this dress was the color. It had a blush tint underneath the skirt. When I mentioned this to Mindi, she told me that we could absolutely make that happen with the first dress. With that being said, I went back to the dressing room and hopped back in the first one.
When I came out of the dressing room for the second time and saw myself in the mirror again, I just knew. Mindi left for a few minutes and came back with a gorgeous veil and a headpiece. She put them on my head, turned to my mom and my sister, and told them to ask me “The Question”. Through happy tears, they asked me if I was saying yes to my dress, and I practically shouted, “YES!”. Everyone started clapping and crying and it felt like the entire store was in celebration with me. Next to the day I got engaged, I have never felt more special or more celebrated. After all of the smiles, laughs, and happy tears, I went back to the dressing room and got to change into my very own “Something New Bride” shirt. We drank more champagne, took celebratory pictures, and just soaked in the moment.
I am so grateful for the experience that I got to have finding my dress at Something New. I feel like I got to have my Disney princess experience while finding the dress that I get to wear when I marry the man of my dreams. I felt so special and the memories of that day will stay with me forever. Thank you so much to Mindi and the Something New team for making my day so special!”
