Have you ever had trouble finding a dress that complements your body shape? Do you have trouble distinguishing what exactly your body shape is? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, this article is for you!
Figuring out your body shape can be difficult enough, but then unsuccessfully trying on different styles and silhouettes adds even more frustration to the equation! At Something New Boutique, we love to help our customers figure out those stresses in an easy way! We like to start at the beginning, and figure out your body shape first! But don’t forget to keep in mind, you can have any of these body types, no matter what your size is.
Here is a quick and easy quiz* from the WhoWhatWear fashion editorial website to help figure out your body shape!
Now that you know your body shape, here’s your silhouette suggestions!
Hourglass:
A dress that works best with this body type would be one that distinguishes the waist from the rest of the body! The mermaid style is a wonderful look for the hourglass shape. With a fitted bodice and skirt that hugs the hips, this silhouette fits your body shape and flatters your curves!
Inverted Triangle:
For an inverted triangle body shape, an a-line silhouette looks gorgeous! The fitted bodice adds a curve to your waist and the more full, flowing skirt adds a little bit of body. This silhouette compliments your beautiful frame and adding a small strap or off shoulder detail brings in the shoulders!
Apple:
With an apple shape, women usually have much longer, slender legs and a fuller bust section. You will want to accentuate and narrow your top section for a more flattering dress look! This can be easily done with a v-neckline or a plunge. You want to avoid elaborate, detailed necklines to try to elongate your shape!
Athletic:
For the athletic body, you’ll want a mostly fitted dress! With capped sleeves and a sweetheart neckline, you can give the illusion of a larger bust area, which helps add a cinched look to the mid section. A fitted rear will also help complement this and give more of an illusion of curves!
Triangle (or pear):
For the triangle shape, a fit n’ flare style should be your go-to silhouette! With a fitted bodice area, your small shoulders and waist will be flattered, while the skirt’s flare will add coverage, and be comfortable!
